A Before You Dig (BYD) report shows the location of underground services on a property, such as: 

  • Electricity cables 
  • Gas pipes 
  • Water and sewer lines 
  • Telecommunications and fibre optic cables 


It’s essential to get one before any excavation or construction to avoid hitting underground services, which can be dangerous and expensive. 


How Do I Obtain This Document?

  1. Go to the NSW Before You Dig website. The service is free. 
  2. Submit your property details. Enter the address or lot details of your property. 
  3. Specify the type of work you’re planning (digging, trenching, drilling, etc.). 
  4. Receive the report. You’ll get a map showing all known underground services.
