Now that you’ve engaged a service provider (or “Pro”) for this part of your project, it’s time to take a more hands-on role in managing the process. Build Buddy is here to guide you every step of the way. This stage is about monitoring progress, maintaining good communication with your Pro, and ensuring the work meets your expectations and relevant standards. Don’t worry — whether you're hands-on or overseeing from a distance, Build Buddy is here to help you stay on track, in control, and fully informed.

What You Should Be Doing

Stay in regular contact with your Pro

Clear, simple and frequent communication is essential once tools are on site. Be available to answer any questions that come up and ask for updates if you need them.

Track progress and keep an eye on timelines

Use your project plan or scope of works to compare what’s been done with what’s scheduled. If things start falling behind, address it early.

Manage milestone payments

Check the Payments tab in this task to see if any staged payments are due. Always link payments to verified progress — don’t pay in full until the agreed works are complete and meet your standards.

Use your quality checklist throughout

Don’t wait until the end to do a quality check. Use your checklist regularly to catch issues early and ensure everything is being done to spec - raise defects where needed.

How to Complete this Task

STEP 1

Your Pro will click “Start Job” on their app. The status of this task will automatically change to ‘Work In Progress’.

STEP 2

When works are complete, the Pro will tap “Request Review” in their app.

STEP 3

You’ll then see two buttons appear: ‘Failed QA’ and ‘Works Complete’.

  • Use your quality assurance checklist to inspect the works.
  • If anything isn’t up to standard, use the ‘Failed QA’ option and record defects to track what needs to be fixed.
  • Once everything’s been addressed and you're happy with the result, click ‘Works Complete’.

If you have DIY'd this task

If you are not engaging with a Pro via Build Buddy for this task, you will be responsible for marking this task as started and completed.

Tips for Working with a Pro Onsite

Talk to your Construction Buddy (only available for Tier 2 or 3)

Going to your Construction Buddy first, before the Pro, will keep your Pro happier. Often your questions or concerns can be addressed by your Construction Buddy instead.

Keep track of what's agreed

Whether it’s extra work, change in scope (variation), or a fix that’s promised (defect), keep track of it in the app or send a message to confirm.

Stick to the plan

Avoid making lots of last-minute changes — they can cause delays, confusion, and extra costs.

Raise concerns early and calmly

If you spot something that doesn’t look right, don’t sit on it. Ask questions early — it’s easier to make changes now than later.

Be present, but not in the way

Check in regularly, but give your Pro space to get on with the job. A quick chat in the morning or end of day goes a long way.

Keep a clean site

A clean and clear construction site puts you in the best position to avoid safety incidents and unnecessary defects to occur. This also subconsciously encourages trades to look after your property and do a better job.

Need Help?

Our next recommendation is to speak with your Construction Buddy first. This is only applicable if you have engaged with a Tier 2 or Tier 3 Construction Buddy. Your Construction Buddy will be able to explain things for you and answer any questions you may have. Going to your Construction Buddy first, will also be better for the relationship with your Pro.

If you have questions about the construction work itself, your Pro is your second point of contact. They’re the expert on this task, so work with them on resolving whatever issue you feel needs to be addressed.
