What Is a No Go Zone Permit?
A No Go Zone Permit is formal approval issued by your local electricity distributor (not your energy retailer). It allows you to carry out works within the regulated safety clearance distance of overhead or underground powerlines — but only after the electrical risk has been assessed and controlled.
This permit is required under Energy Safe Victoria regulations and must be secured before any works that bring equipment, people, or materials near powerlines begin.

Why You Need It
Working near powerlines without proper clearance is extremely dangerous and may be illegal. A No Go Zone Permit:
- Ensures your works comply with minimum safety distances
- Helps prevent electric shock, electrocution, or equipment contact
- Protects workers, trades, and the public during site activity
- Is often required for:
- Cranes or elevated work platforms
- Scaffolding, roofing, or wall cladding
- Excavation near underground lines
- Delivery of materials near aerial powerlines
