What Is a Brick Supplier?
A Brick Supplier provides the materials (bricks) needed for constructing the brickwork of your home. They don’t install the bricks — their job is to source, confirm, and deliver the right type and quantity of bricks to your site, in stages that match your construction schedule.
They work closely with you (the owner builder) and your Bricklayer to ensure bricks are available on time, in the right location, and in good condition — so you avoid delays or mismatches.

What Does a Brick Supplier Do?
Your Brick Supplier will complete works according to your agreed scope of works.
Typically, a Brick Supplier will:
- Help confirm the brick selection with you (type, colour, texture)
- Review your architectural and structural drawings to estimate total quantity
- Ensure the bricks meet environmental conditions (e.g. BAL rating, salinity, coastal)
- Deliver bricks to site with care to avoid damage to bricks and surroundings
- Stage deliveries to match different parts of your build (to avoid excess stock)
- Include a delivery manifest with type, quantity, and batch details
- Ensure all deliveries are placed within your site fence (not on council verge)
- Avoid double stacking bricks to reduce breakage
- Keep surrounding areas like roads free from dirt and debris after delivery

Tip: Manage Brick Deliveries and Selection Carefully
Ask for staged delivery — you don’t want 10,000 bricks dumped before you’re ready.
Check that your brick type suits your location — especially if you're in a
bushfire or coastal zone.
What to Look For in a Brick Supplier
You’re looking for someone who:
- Offers a wide range of brick types and colours with strong supplier relationships
- Understands compliance (e.g. AS/NZS 4455.1, AS 3700, BAL ratings)
- Has a system for quality control (batch tracking, consistent colouring)
- Can deliver in stages and work around your construction program
- Provides prompt support for product issues, mismatched deliveries, or breakages
- Has reliable logistics — bricks must arrive undamaged, on time, and with clear placement
Before You Begin: What You’ll Need Ready
To get quotes from Brick Suppliers, you’ll need:
- Finalised architectural drawings showing wall areas
- Your chosen brick brand and range (if decided already)
- Site address and access conditions
- Preferred delivery timeline (especially if you want staging)
- Any site-specific performance requirements (e.g. BAL rating, coastal protection)
Average Timeframe
For this task, Pros typically provide quotes within
7-10 business days.
When Can I Expect Quotes?
Timeframes often vary based on demand and the type of Pro you're engaging (e.g. a plumber). If additional communication or clarification is needed is needed, the quoting process may take longer.
Don't be alarmed if you don't receive quotes or communication from any Build Buddy Pros straight away. Some work is more complex and the Pro may need time to comprehend your documents or scope of work. Depending on the job, there may even be some work required by the Pro before they are able to quote (e.g. a site visit might be required).
If the average timeframe indicated here has passed, and you have not received any messages or quotes, please feel free to contact the Build Buddy Expert Guidance and Support team for an update on quoting for this task.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to order bricks or does the Bricklayer?
As the owner builder, you usually order the bricks. The Bricklayer will often supply labour only. It’s up to you to coordinate supply — but we help you manage this in the Build Buddy workflow.
Should I order extra bricks?
Yes. Always allow for wastage, breakage, and cuts — your supplier or Bricklayer can advise a buffer (typically 5–10%). Better to over-order than risk stopping work mid-job.
Do bricks need to be delivered all at once?
Not at all. A good supplier will offer staged deliveries to suit your build schedule. This avoids overcrowding the site and protects bricks from weather damage.
