What Is Plumbing Approval?
Plumbing Approval is formal consent from your local council or plumbing regulator to install or modify plumbing and drainage systems on your residential site.

Why is this Needed?
You’ll need Plumbing Approval to:
- Install new plumbing or drainage systems (e.g. for a new home or granny flat)
- Alter or upgrade existing plumbing (e.g. in a renovation or extension)
- Connect to mains water or sewer
- Install onsite systems like greywater or septic treatment units
It ensures your work meets public health, safety, and environmental standards — and it’s legally required before work starts.
How it Works
1. Visit the Plumbing Application Portal:
https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/building-and-planning/application-process/plumbing-permit-applications/residential-plumbing-works#how
2. Scroll down to ‘Lodge an Application’. Find the blue heading “Lodge an Application” partway down the page.
3. Click the online application form. You’ll be taken to the eServices portal to begin your submission.
4. Complete the form:
- Enter your property address
- Upload plans and documentation (e.g. site plan, plumbing layouts)
- Add owner builder details
- Pay the application fee
5. Submit and track progress:
- Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation number.
- Keep an eye on your email for updates or requests for more information.
