What is a Complying Development Certificate?

A CDC (Complying Development Certificate) is a fast-track approval for low-risk developments, like new houses or extensions, that meet specific planning standards—such as zoning, setbacks, height limits, and site coverage—and building standards under the Building Code of Australia, including structural safety, fire safety, accessibility, and proper plumbing and electrical compliance.

 

How Do I Obtain This Document?

  1. Register for a NSW Planning Portal account to start your application here, if you don’t already have one
  2. Select ‘Log in with a Service NSW account’ or enter your NSW Planning Portal login details. 
  3. Follow the prompts to complete your application. 
  4. After you submit your application: 
  • You'll receive a confirmation email
  • Your application will be sent to your nominated certifier for consideration
  • The certifier will conduct a pre-assessment review and advise if any additional or revised documents are required
  • A fee quote will be issued for your review.
  • When the certifier accepts your application for assessment, your application will be lodged and you'll receive an email to advise you of this status change.
